How to Play
Once you click on Play Game, you will be taken to the Level Select screen, where you will see the levels 1 – 25 in an "On-Point" quilt layout. There is an arrow on the bottom right hand side of the screen. Clicking on the arrow takes you to levels 26 – 50.
To begin play, click on the block in the top left corner of the Level Select screen. This is block #1. All other blocks remain numbered & locked until you complete the previous level.
A blank square will appear in the play area, and a shape will pop up in the bottom half of the screen. Left click on the shape and drag it into the game play area where you think it might fit, and then release the shape. There is no rotation of pieces involved; Unlock the Block is a straight up 'drag & drop' style game. If you have placed the piece correctly, it will stay in the square and another shape will appear for you to place. If you've placed it incorrectly, it will bounce back down to the bottom of the screen and you'll need to try placing it again. Keep placing the shapes until you have completed the block.
Oh, and each time you play the level, the shapes appear in a different order. They're random, and you're welcome!
Time & Scoring
The moment play begins; a timer will begin counting the seconds until the block is complete. You will receive 100 points for each correctly placed shape. For every shape placed incorrectly, 5 seconds will be added to the clock. When the block is complete, your time will subtract from the points you have accumulated, resulting in your final score for the level.
There are 3 medals you can achieve in each level; Bronze, Silver & Gold. Which medal you achieve will depend on how long it takes you to complete the block, which ultimately affects your score. At minimum, you need a Bronze medal to unlock the instructions. Replaying levels for Silver & Gold are just for fun. But don't worry, we have made the Bronze quite easy to achieve once you've discovered what the block actually is.
Once you have "Unlocked the Block", with a minimum Bronze medal, the name of the block will appear at the top of the screen. "Make Block" will appear beside the block. Clicking on this will open a PDF with the instructions to make the block (pop-ups need to be enabled in order for the PDF screen to appear). You can save the instructions to a folder in your computer, print them, or just leave them within the game. Each time you achieve a medal, the game automatically saves your progress. You'll never lose the instructions this way, and you can always log in to play from where you left off.
Now here's one of the coolest features of this game. As you play, you build yourself a library of blocks/instructions that you can access at any time. You can use the blocks/instructions to make so many quilts by combining different blocks. How wonderful is that?!
You may turn off the music and game sounds at any time by clicking on the icons on the bottom left hand corner of the Level Select screen. Click the icons again to turn the sounds/music back on.
*A PC with Windows operating system is required for game play. Unlock the Block is not an app and can not be played on portable devices.
